How Committed Are You And Your Team To The Ongoing Execution Of Your Strategic Plan?

Years ago my business coach shared this story with me and I continually use it with my clients. The story goes like this:
“Would you agree that the US has a multi-billion dollar diet food industry? Great! Would you agree that if we as individuals would:
Drink 8 glasses of water each day
Walk 30 more minutes each day
Reduce your daily food intake
Avoid those foods that you know put weight on you
We would lose weight? Good. Then if losing weight is relatively simply through the 4 action steps that we just agreed to, why do we have a multi-billion diet food industry? The answer is commitment. We know what we need to do, but we are not committed to doing what we need to do whether it is to lose weight or increase business sales.”
Commitment comes from two Latin words that mean together and to send. Within the strategic planning process, a team of individuals in leadership positions come together to send a plan of strategy and tactics in which to out think and outlast the competition to all shareholders.
Commitment is a necessary quality within the strategic planning process. The lack of commitment is a contributing factor in the ongoing inability to execute the strategic plan.
When all team members within the organization work together to send the same message in their efforts to achieve goals, the level of commitment is very high. Everyone now goes beyond knowing what to do, but to doing what he or she needs to do.
